Iron & Cedar Chest

An original design, handmade by The Iron Laboratory

$999

Built from steel and red cedar, this chest was designed as a functional heirloom—an object meant to be used, moved, repaired, and passed on.

The frame is fabricated from angle iron and flat stock, joined with custom-made corner pieces and steel rivets. Red cedar forms the body of the chest, bringing warmth and character to the industrial structure.

Stainless steel hardware is used throughout, connecting wood to metal with strength and permanence. The hinges, handles, and front latch were all handmade specifically for this piece.

Copper washers provide subtle contrast against the steel frame, while the interior is lined with burgundy velvet, carefully fitted into each seam and corner.

Approximate weight: 50 lbs.

Copper & Acacia Dining Table        $600

designed & built by The Iron Laboratory

Built around a solid acacia butcher block top, this table combines warm hardwood with the enduring character of copper and cast iron.

The tabletop measures 36" × 72" × 1½" and is finished in an Aged Barrel stain that highlights the natural grain and variation of the wood. Supporting the top is a custom-fabricated copper frame constructed from 2" and 1" copper pipe and fittings. Every joint was individually prepared and soldered by hand.

Cast iron floor flanges anchor the base and provide approximately ¾" of leveling adjustment, allowing the table to sit solidly on uneven floors.

The result is a piece that feels both industrial and refined—built for daily use, family gatherings, and years of service.

Includes matching chairs.

Dimensions: 72" x 36" x 36"

1980 Yamaha SR250 Custom Bobber

Originally built in 1980. Reimagined in The Laboratory.

Originally a stock SR250 that I rebuilt into a simple, stripped-down bobber. The goal wasn't to build a show bike, but a lightweight vintage motorcycle with character that could be ridden and enjoyed.

The project was completed in May 2023 and retains the simple, dependable nature that made these single-cylinder, four-stroke Yamahas so respected and reliable.

The frame was modified with a custom bobber-style rear section and fitted with a single spring seat, custom rear fender, and fabricated fender strut. A new handlebar, custom foot pegs, updated lighting, and numerous handcrafted details give the motorcycle its distinct appearance while preserving its mechanical simplicity.

The engine remains stock internally and has never been opened. With approximately 10,000 original miles, it starts, runs, and rides well. The fuel tank has been cleaned and sealed internally, and the motorcycle has been fitted with a lithium battery, new tires, rear shocks, rear brakes, and LED lighting throughout (headlight is incandescent).

The original wiring harness was retained and modified to accommodate the updated electrical components. A pod-style air filter and straight pipe exhaust were installed, though the carburetor could benefit from final tuning to perfectly match the intake and exhaust setup.

Includes various original parts, extra jets, miscellaneous spare components, a service manual, and an OEM kickstart assembly.

This is not a showroom restoration. It is a hand-built motorcycle with visible character, intentional and honest imperfections, and a presence that draws attention wherever it is parked.

Approximate mileage: 10,000 (16,000 km)
